Don't let your house get snowed In
The temperatures have changed and we are officially in winter with actual snow on the ground. Maybe you want to add life to your house for your own sake. OR you want to list your house now while the market is warming up, but need help to bring the buyers; your house needs to pop, to not blend in with the bare trees, white or dirty snow, lack of flowers and life outside.
Not all home buyers are shopping in the summer, there are many who need to buy or sell in the winter months as well. Think of marriage, divorce, empty nesters, apartment leases that are up, change of jobs or school, etc. We always focus on the outside more in the warmer months because we can be enjoying the weather at the same time. But winter is when you need to make sure the appeal is just as strong. Here are some easy ideas that will pay off all year long, that can be done now.
* Bring in and paint your shutters, and your front door. Don't forget that the garage man door might be used as a front door for you home,so go ahead and paint it too.
* Update your house numbers, both on the house and the mailbox. This will make it easy for buyers to find your home in different weather conditions and times of day. It will also make it easier for people like your pizza delivery person, fedEx and UPS, and family and friends.
*Add potted plants that can be set outside for showings and open houses then brought in, or choose plants that are great for cold weather including fake flowers and berries. Check your local landscape place or Micheals.
*Think lights. Change out your light bulbs for brighter LED bulbs outside, add Lanterns that can be hardwired or battery operated. Have a fence? String up some white lights on a timer. Place Lanterns or posts with solar lights at the end of your driveway on either side to welcome visitors.
*Keep sidewalks and driveways clear of snow and ice. Nothing says not welcome and not properly maintained like an unkept path. Some buyers immediately assume that if the outside is not maintained then the inside will not be as well.
*Garden Ornaments are on sale and cheaper during the winter months. Lots of color and designs can be added to enhance your homes character and appeal by placing these along the walk up to your home, and front door.
*Lets not forget about nature. Adding bird feeders to the yard will attract many colorful birds all year long.
